McRib Copycat Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Pork Patties:
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp water
For the BBQ Sauce:
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp molasses
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Sandwich:
- 4 hoagie rolls or sandwich buns
- 8 dill pickle slices
- 1/2 white onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp butter (for toasting the buns)
Instructions:
Prepare the Pork Patties:
- In a bowl, mix the ground pork with smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and water until well combined.
- Divide the pork mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a rectangular patty (to mimic the McRib shape) about the length of your hoagie rolls.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until fully cooked through and golden brown on the outside. Set aside.
Make the BBQ Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Stir occasionally and simmer for about 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Assemble the McRib:
- Toast the hoagie rolls with a little butter in a skillet until lightly browned.
- Dip each pork patty into the BBQ sauce, coating it generously.
- Place the sauced pork patty on the bottom half of the roll. Top with a couple of dill pickle slices and some thinly sliced onions.
- Place the top half of the bun on the sandwich and press down gently.
Serve:
- Serve your McRib copycat sandwiches hot with extra BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
Enjoy your homemade version of the iconic McRib, packed with smoky and tangy goodness!
