Simple Seasoned Meatball Sub Sandwich

Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:

1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)

1/3 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon dried)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder
-
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 large egg
For the Sauce:

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
-
Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
To Assemble:

4 hoagie rolls or sub buns
-
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella (or provolone)

Olive oil or butter (for toasting)
-
Optional: grated Parmesan for topping
Instructions:
1. Make the Meatballs

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a large bowl, combine all meatball ingredients. Mix gently until just combined.

Form into 12–14 meatballs and place on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment.

Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until fully cooked through.
2. Heat the Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, add the marinara, garlic powder, basil, and red pepper flakes.

Simmer for 5–10 minutes. Once meatballs are done, add them to the sauce and coat well.
3. Toast the Rolls

Slice rolls open and lightly brush with olive oil or butter.

Toast in the oven or on a skillet until golden and slightly crispy.
4. Assemble the Subs

Place 3–4 meatballs in each roll, spoon over extra sauce.

Sprinkle generously with mozzarella and a bit of Parmesan.

Toast in the oven for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Tips:

For extra richness, add a smear of garlic butter inside the buns before toasting.
